Jakarta’s Imports Continue to Grow in July 2022

Abstract

The continuity of the positive growth of domestic production activity plays a crucial role in the prospect of accelerated economic recovery in Jakarta. This trend was followed by increasing public confidence and boosted domestic demand, which reflected the prospect of accelerated economic recovery. Furthermore, the rise in domestic production and demand was reflected in the surge of Jakarta’s year-on-year imports, which continued in July 2022. This rise indicated the rise in economic activity compared to the last year.

In July 2022, Jakarta’s imports clocked at US$ 6,749.2 million. While imports slightly decreased by 2,1 percent compared to June 2022 (month-to-month), the figures surged by 28,9 percent compared to July 2021 (year-on-year). The increase in imports in the oil and gas and non-oil and gas sectors triggered the high growth of year-on-year imports in this period.

Based on the Broad Economic Categories (BEC) classification, all groups in this period experienced an increase compared to the same period in the previous year (year-on-year). Imports of capital goods accounted for the most significant increase (41.9 percent), followed by the imports of consumption goods (28,6 percent) and the imports of intermediate goods (25.3 percent).
