Stepping in The Emergency PPKM Period, Jakarta Deflation Continues but Shallower

Abstract

Stepping in the Emergency PPKM implementation period, several commodities in Jakarta experienced prices declines. The sluggish demand and the lack of sales transactions amid the adequate supply of goods and services have weakened the prices of foodstuffs, transport, personal care, and other services. As a result, the post- Eid Al-Fitr deflation last month continued in
July 2021.
Jakarta experienced a deflation of -0.04 percent in July 2021. This was triggered by the falling prices of red chili, shallots, and chicken eggs. In addition, the decline in the price of gold jewelry and the decrease in transport fares also contributed to the deflation in the Capital City.
However, the second deflation throughout 2021 was much shallower than the last June deflation. The rising prices in the categories of clothing and footwear; furniture, furnishings and household equipment, and operation; health; and the provision of food and beverages/restaurants were able to restrain the deflation rate in order not to depreciate further.
