Abstract

Implementing  the  Covid-19  vaccination program  raises  new  hopes  and  optimism  for Jakarta’s economic recovery. From mid-2020 to the first  quarter  of  2021,  the  economy  in  the  capital city  began  to  grow,    marked  by  a  considerable absorption  of  labor,  especially  in  the  formal sector.  This  absorption  of  workers  causes  the unemployment rate to drop significantly.

Jakarta has absorbed 250 thousand laborers from  August  2020  to  February  2021.  The  existing labor  market  has  absorbed  laborers  from  the additional people in the labor force, the shift from unemployed in the previous period due to COVID-19, and the shift from the non-labor force population.

Aligned with the increasing employed people, the number of employed people in the formal sector also  increased  by  268  thousand  to  3,15  million people.  The  absorption  of  formal  sector  workers indicates a higher quality workforce performance.

The  increase  in  number  of  employed  people resulted  in  a  decrease  in  the  Unemployment  Rate for  the  Capital  City  by  2.44  to  8.51  percent.  This decrease  is  relatively  the  highest  compared  to  33 other provinces in Indonesia.
